Comment:
These are protozoa which can parasitise skin and subcutaneous tissues. Sections from biopsies can be used to detect these parasites. Fine needle aspirates, impression smears, squashed preparation and preparations from minced tissues may also be useful. They may be examined after being stained using H&E, Giemsa, Trichrome, Gomori methenamine silver and modified acid fast stains.
